How To Remove Stains From A Carpet By Yourself

Oops! If you’ve got carpets in your home, you know it can be difficult to keep them clean and bright. Areas of high traffic in your home tend to have a lot of stain potential, and you don’t want to spend half your life (and your budget!) on a steam cleaner too regularly. Fortunately, there are a lot of home remedies for quick stain removal. Whether it’s wine, chocolate, or even cooking oil, there’s a way to get a stain out of any carpet!

The Vinegar Method

Most water-soluble stains like alcohol, paint, or ice cream, can be removed with a simple solution made up of 1/4 tsp of non-bleaching detergent or dish soap, mixed with 1/4 tsp white vinegar. Add 32 ounces of water to the mix, and apply by dabbing, so you don’t accidentally smear or spread the stain around. Once the mix has soaked into the carpet, dab with a dry cloth or dry paper towel until the stain lifts out.

For Extra Tough Stains

According to Geoff from https://www.wellingtoncarpetcleaner.co.nz/ If the above fades the stain but doesn’t remove it completely, vacuum the spot so it dries completely. Apply 1/4 baking soda to water to make a paste. Apply the paste to the carpet with a cloth or a paper towel. Let it sit till it dries. Then, you can vacuum the area. The baking soda will have bleached the area clean.

For Oil Or Wax

Cooking oil, candles, and other waxy substances cannot be lifted from your carpet with water-soluble methods. Instead, press a piece of wax paper or paraffin paper, and apply low heat with an iron for a few seconds. Just enough to soften any burnt-in stains. Then you can lift the paper, and the stain should come with it.

Whether you’ve got kids’ crushed crayons, cooking spills, or dinner party stains to worry about, there’s no need to choose an expensive steam cleaner for your carpet. You can remove those stains yourself with some DIY know-how, and a few common items that can be found around your home!
